Welcome to FFBIZ – The Feminist Archive in Berlin
Welcome to FFBIZ, one of Germany‘s oldest feminist archives. Since 1978, the FFBIZ has collected and preserved the history of the women‘s liberation movements („Neue Frauenbewegung“) and the feminist and queer-feminist movements that have emerged from them.
International Collections
Our archive contains materials on women‘s movements, feminism, and queer feminism from Berlin, Germany, and many other countries.
Most of our holdings are in German, but we also preserve a substantial number of materials in English and other languages. In our online catalogue META, you can filter records by language using the menu on the right-hand side. Currently, more than 3,000 catalogue records are available in English.
Researching Our Collections
The FFBIZ collections can be searched through META, the shared online catalogue of German-speaking feminist and lesbian archives and libraries. While META provides access to a large part of our collections, not all of our holdings have been catalogued there yet.

Visiting the Archive
Our archive is open to everyone with an interest in feminist history and research. Access is free of charge.
Please contact us by email at info@ffbiz.de at least two weeks before your planned visit. This allows us to discuss your research interests, prepare relevant materials, and reserve a workspace in our reading room.
Our reading room is located in Berlin-Marzahn, close to Mehrower Allee S-Bahn station (S7).

Thursday and Friday, 10:00–17:00

Please Note
The archive occasionally closes for extended periods during the summer or winter. If you are planning a research trip to Berlin, we recommend contacting us well in advance to check our opening dates.
Searching the META catalogue is not a Google search. Instead, you can search specifically for different types of materials, such as films, academic theses, periodicals, or archival records.
You can choose between a simple search, using a single search box, and an advanced search, which allows you to combine multiple search fields and search criteria.
By clicking the bookmark icon, you can save selected records to a list. You can then email this list directly to the FFBIZ to help us prepare your visit and retrieve the materials you would like to consult.
